Shanghai Xing Jian Polytechnic College is a higher vocational college, which is approved by Shanghai municipality, registered by the Education Ministry of China and sponsored by the government.

The college covers an area of about 16.4 acres. The total investment amounts to RMB 260 million. Campus-building occupies more than 75,000 square meters. It has 130 classrooms of different types. In addition, it has ten buildings with different functions, among which are a modern multimedia center, a computerized library, labs with advanced facilities, a workshop building and a gymnasium with a unique style. The college also has three teaching and training centers attached to it.

Now the college has a total staff of 306, majority of whom are professional teachers with titles of lecturers or professors. In recent years, we have engaged some teachers with doctoral degree or master's degree. Besides, the college also invites some well-known professors and experts to deliver lectures.

The college adheres to the educational principle "Based on the students' demand, assist the students to be successful". In order to make the students suitable for the society, we attach importance in our teaching to the training of applied abilities in technology and of practical abilities in technology and of practical abilities in operation. The college is actively pursuing the higher education reform with regard to the mode and the scale of its development. In our teaching, we place emphasis on "curriculum construction", including corresponding patterns made up of relative courses, offering different professionals students with different background a "menu" of diversified courses. So we can add the proportion of optional courses and frequency of lectures for students to choose.

The college is making great efforts to become one of model higher vocational colleges in Shanghai. And it is searching for new ways to cooperate with foreign education institutions. Recently, some specialized departments in our college have established cooperative relationships with some prestigious universities of America, Japan, France and Australia, etc. By cooperating with these universities both at home and abroad, our college is endeavoring to improve management and professional work.

Shanghai Calligraphy Association "Calligraphy in Community"activity have been held in　Xingjian Polytechnic College

On April 6, 2003, the activity of "Calligraphy in Community"was held by Shanghai Calligraphy Association , Chunjiang painting and calligraphy Gallery ,Xingjian Polytechnic College in Xingjian Polytechnic College. The purpose of this activity was going deeply into the society, pressing closely to the crowd and severing the community people better. No less than 40 participators paintings on the spot and the comment are combined with the suggestion of experts and the crowd. At last six people won the prize, among which the students of Xingjian ZhongWei ,ZhangJiaZheng won the first and second prize.

This time college League Committee "Dedicate a piece of love ,build new homeland together "charity bazaar activity ,responding the summon of Party Center "hold out helping hands, help disaster area people to rebuilt homeland ".The activity is under the concrete guidance of　college Party general branch ,Student Section .It is also one of the college volunteer services activities. The activity was carrying out in three phrases after getting touch with the Shanghai Red Cross .The goods of charity bazaar were all provided by about three thousands students of sixty-four classes in college .The goods containing books ,musical cassettes ,living and studying things and so forth, the students participate the charity bazaar and offer assistance activity, whose official files had recorded Shanghai Xingjian Polytechnic College League Committee《the Memo of Volunteer Services》.According to the introduction of organizer, the charity bazaar activity which was decided to held one week, for students' active participation , which has been extended another week. On August 9, Yin yicun, leader of Education commission, vice-secretary of Shanghai municipal government, Zhou muyao, Yangxiaodu, vice-mayors of Shanghai, and other leaders from Shanghai Education Commission came to our college to have an inspection. They highly praised our efforts in the aspects of operating the college and innovation in education.

<Former vice-president of Vietnam Ruan shiping visited our college>

On October 23, former vice-president of Vietnam Ruan shiping, companied by president of Zhbei Labor Bureau Gan weigang, vice-president of Zhabei Education Commission Tang liping, president of our college Wang hongye and secretary of community party branch of our college Xu zhiqiang visited our college. <The international GongHe TOT was held in our college>

On November 9, a cooperative project between China and Canada Cooperative System of TOT was held in our Conference Center. This conference was hosted by the international GongHe, and was sub-hosted by Shanghai Hope Alliance, Zhbei Labor Bureau and Xingjian College.TOT was hosted by secretary-general of the international GongHe Guolina. During the conference, Dr. Doris form Cooperative association of Canada introduced some features of this cooperative system and the form of its operation system as well as some experience. The cooperative system is an economic organization which serves the interests of its members. And it has much useful experience for the operation of middle-sized enterprises and for organizing jobless persons to start their business. Managing directors from some middle-sized enterprises and Leaders from some related departments of Shanghai municipal government and district governments also attended this conference.

<Join the research work of some major problems of the tenth five-year strategy of Education Commission> 　　

exploration and research of curriculum system of higher vocational education is the major problem of the tenth five-year strategy of national education science. Vice-president of Shanghai Education Science Institute Guo yang host this project. And it will be ended in 2004. Our college has joined the research of subsidiary project, and we have established a research group to launch the study of curriculum system of community higher vocational education.

<Cooperation overseas>

Approved by leading department, Business Administration cooperated by China and France has started. It enrolled 145 students grouping into 4 classes. Hotel Administration cooperated by China and Australia has also been approved by Shanghai Education Commission and it will start its enrollment in 2003. Another cooperative project is between China and Japan. The vocational training center of our college and a Japanese company伊洛哈特 established a training program for administrator of automobile repairing. Some qualified trainees have gone to Japan to have a one-year further study. When they come back, they will become the shop-head of its branch companies in China.

<The establishment of Shanghai Zhabei Education Research Center and Zhabei Citizen Education Supervision Center>

On April 7, Shanghai Zhabei Education Research Center and Zhabei Citizen Education Supervision Center was founded, which symbolizes the community education of Shanghai Zhabei district has entered a new developing period. The idea of how to start a school and its successful attempt to serve the community is an innovation of Shanghai community education. We participate the full use of hardware resources in the neighborhood, provide places and facilities for education, take advantages of talented people and networks, determine the contents and scheme of community cultural education training, and help to engage teachers to serve the community. We have contributed to the training of jobless people and the construction of Zhabei study-pattern community educational networks. And we have become a major foundation of building a study-pattern community. We also have paved a new way for community lifelong education and re-obtaining job training. And we help to build the relationship between Shanghai Zhabei and domestic and overseas organizations in the fields of technology, culture and educational exchange.

<Cooperation with Hualian Group>

In July, our college signed a contract with Hualian Group to establish Business Administration specialty. In terms of the developing aim, curriculum setting, practicing and part-time teaching, we have reached the agreements as follows: Hualian Group will provide some experienced technicians and administrators to hold lectures in our college; a Hualian supermarket will open in our college, and will be supervised by the students themselves, and Hualian Group will provide technical supervision and technical support. The purpose is to help the students to learn the theory and methods of running an enterprise through practice, and heighten their spirits and competence for self-starting their business.

<Shanghai General Education Communist Party Working Conference of 2002 was held in our college>

On March 13, Shanghai General Education Communist Party Working Conference of 2002, hosted by Shanghai Education Commission Communist Party, was held in our college. Vice-secretary of Shanghai municipal government, secretary of Shanghai Education Commission Wang ronghua attended the conference. Before the conference, Mr. Wang, companied by secretary of Zhabei Education Commission Communist Party Gu pinglong, president of our college Wang hongye and general secretary of branch Communist Party of our college Xu zhiqiang, looked around the campus and learned the construction and development of our college. He said, "When I come to Xingjian college, I am amazed. This is a brand-new college. I've been to France, Britain, Germany etc., and visited some colleges there. As far as the hardware is concerned, our colleges are better than theirs. Shanghai Education Commission has never had such a nice conference building, but I'm content because Xingjian has set a model to all the colleges and schools in Shanghai. I hope that as the hardware grows the software must keep pace with it. I hope that the education of your college will have more features.

From November 22 to 29, Our college held its fourth of the first teacher representative conference. During the conference, representatives listened to, reviewed and approved Shanghai Xingjian Polytechnic College Four-year Developing Plan (school year 2002-2005).
